Mindfulness
Becoming aware of your breath and learning to control it is a useful self-regulation tool. It allows you to gain composure, develop good posture, to relax, de-stress and better understand yourself and others.
The following breathing activity can be used by children of all ages, and adults too. We encourage you to build up your breathing practice slowly, starting with three breaths and building up to as many as you need in a given situation. We will give you a different breathing exercise every day. Here is today’s breathing exercise -elephant_breathing.docx

Week beginning March 30th
- Read Units 32 and 35 , Cúchulainn and St Patrick in Earthlink and complete the activities in the corresponding workbook. If your child does not have their books, don’t worry as there is lots of information on line that they can access. Here are some useful websites
- Read Unit 34, Heat in EarthLink
- Mental Maths should be completed every day.
- Practice all tables, both multiplication and division. Third class can start their division tables too. Some of them have already started. Your child will know if they are ready for this. Start with 2s, 5s and 10s for these two weeks. http://www.timestables.me.uk/index.htm This website is great for checking their knowledge. There is no need to print any worksheets as there is an interactive test where your child can chose how many questions they wish to answer, and what tables they wish to be tested on. The website will keep track of their score and time! Get them to do it on a daily basis...check to see if they can beat their score/time! They will enjoy the challenge J
- 4th class were due to start chapter 21, Money this week in their maths books. If you so wish, and if your child can understand the examples provided at the top of each page, they may start this. Pages 105-107 should be manageable. They may find 108-110 challenging .If this is the case, do not do them as I don’t want to add stress at this time.
- 3rd class were due to finish Chapter 19 – Fractions 2. This is quite a challenging chapter, therefore if your child is finding it too difficult, recap on fractions 1, chapter 12.
- If you don’t have your child’s book, then you can access this book on line on the CJ Fallon website. https://my.cjfallon.ie/dashboard/student-resources
- Please continue to complete a unit in their Spellwell each week. If you so wish, give your child a test on a Friday to check their knowledge.
- It is very important that your child continues to read every day. Your child should complete a comprehension exercise from their Read At Home book every day. In addition to this, encourage your child to read a book for their enjoyment. Here are some suggested activities your child can complete around their book of choice; create a character profile about the main character, draw their favourite character and describe him or her or it, summarise key points of the story or chapter they have read, or write a diary entry about their characters’ most exciting moment in the book, making sure to include lots of detailed descriptions and emotion.
- We were covering Unit 11 in WordWise this week for both classes so your child can complete the activities in this unit and do the next unit if they so wish.
- CJ Fallon are allowing access to all their on line resources. Léigh sa bhaile is a series of Irish language books. Your child can read and listen to them on https://my.cjfallon.ie/dashboard/student-resources. Léigh sa bhaile C is for 3rd class and D is for 4th. Have your child listen and read a page a day. If they do not understand some vocabulary, direct them to fóclóir.ie, which is an on line Irish dictionary.
- Finally, everyone has really enjoyed completing projects this year; therefore if your child would like to complete another, I suggest completing a project on a topic of interest to them, perhaps a famous person they admire. This term, they all completed a project on a country and animal of their choice. If they wish to chose another country or animal then great! It is entirely up to them!
